The Office’s John Krasinski brings his directorial debut to the Ritz for the Austin Premiere!
Look at this man. Take a good, hard look at this man to the left.
Nothing immediately jumps out, right? Jaw not as chiseled as, say, a Pitt or a Skarsgaard. Eyes not quite as comforting as a Brimley or even a Jim Lehrer. But there’s something about this man- something genuine and sincere- even if you can’t quite put your finger on it. Something that after only five seconds of screen time as Jim Halpert on The Office made you say to yourself, “I want to be friends with that guy.”
Well, that guy is a man named John Krasinski, a Brown University educated actor and playwright who has, through incorruptible likability alone, catapulted himself into the limelight, and with his talent held his ground.
The story goes that a staged reading of David Foster Wallace’s novel Brief Interviews with Hideous Men is what first inspired Krasinski to become an actor. And now it seems that same reading inspired other career choices as well. Careers like Writer/Director. And for his debut outing, John went back to the source of it all.
Adapted and directed by Krasinski, BRIEF INTERVIEWS WITH HIDEOUS MEN is a darkly funny and disturbing exploration of men and their complex relationships with women, featuring an all-star cast that includes Timothy Hutton, Ben Shenkman, Christopher Meloni, Ben Gibbard, Will Arnett, Chris Messina, Bobby Cannavale, Will Forte, Dennis O’Hare, Lou Taylor Pucci, Max Minghella, and Julianne Nicholson…oh, and John Krasinski.
A graduate student (Nicholson) endeavors to explore the male psyche for her thesis by interviewing a cross-section of men. The men’s twisted and revealing stories are juxtaposed against the backdrop of her own experience. As she begins to listen closely to the men around her, she must ultimately reconcile herself to the darkness that lies below the surface of human interactions.
For the Austin premiere, Krasinski will be making a stop by the Alamo Ritz for select screenings on Friday, November 13 & Saturday, November 14. Tickets to those shows will go on sale this Friday, November 6th, at noon and will available here.
His film opens for a full run at the Alamo Ritz on November 13.

This link to buy the tickets that says “available here” doesn’t go anywhere; it was left blank. Where does one go? Thanks!

[...] It’s not the most accessible movie in the world (which I explained in my review), but it is a quality piece of filmmaking. And it’s your chance to do a little meet-and-greet with Krasinski, who will be in attendance for select shows on November 13th and 14th, says the Original Alamo blog. For more information and to buy tickets, head over to the Alamo Drafthouse site. [...]

Did Brief Interviews with Hideous Men last for less than a week? I went to South Lamar to see it last night by mistake, but assumed it’d at least be playing until Friday… (today, November 20th).
