You're not reaching, you're dead on. Raul, aka Tony Manero, was a one man coup d'etat, forcing his version of America culture onto anyone within reach of the rock in his hand or earshot of his menacing turntable. And his fans loved him. They loved him the same way that the people of Santiago loved Pinoche, aka General Pinoche, who was the skull (and soul) crushing rock in the hands of Nixon and Kissinger. And let's not forget that the real Tony Manero, in Fever, dressed in creepy white was a violent and heartless fuck and rapist, a hero to millions. USA!
