Sneak Preview of Pixar’s UP this Saturday!

During Buttnumbathon this year, one of the standout favorites was 40 unfinished minutes from the new opus UP from the geniuses at Pixar. Even with temporary still images and incompletely rendered animation, the entire audience knew that this was a classic in the making.

Apparently, so did the folks at the Cannes Film Festival. The world premiere of the film is at Cannes on May 13. UP was chosen to be the opening film of the festival, the first ever animated film to be awarded that honor.

Before that premiere, however, lucky folks in Ausitn, Texas will get an even earlier screening! On Saturday, April 18, Ain’t It Cool News, Fantastic Fest and The Alamo Kids Club are hosting a free sneak preview screening of UP at the digitally retrofitted Alamo Drafthouse Village. The director of UP, Pete Docter, will be present and available for a Q&A following the screening. Also, before the film, we will be previewing the new Pixar short PARTLY CLOUDY with director Peter Sohn and producer Kevin Reher in attendance.

We have 50 tickets to give away to the Kids Club Facebook group. Please RSVP on the Kids Club Facebook page and indicate on the wall how many tickets you would like. Priority goes to people who are bringing a child so please indicate whether you will be bringing a child in your wall post. By the end of the day on the 15th, we will post to the event wall and the Kids club wall the final ticket winners chosen at random from those who sign up.  Harry is also giving away some tickets to this screening on Ain’t It Cool News.

If you don’t make either of the lists, we will have a small standby line on the day of the show. Please note that this will be a digital 2D presentation of UP as the 3D effects are not yet complete.  UP opens nationwide (and at the Village) on May 29th.

This is getting to be a trend of beating the “official” world premiers; the same thing with the Star Trek premiere before the Aussies… I for one welcome our new Drafthouse Hollywood overlords.

  2. Ulf Kastner Says:

Speaking of overlords – I lament this apparent trend of Facebook utilization – above RSVP requires Facebook membership whereas some of us do not care to bow to information aggregation and pimping overlord Mark Zuckerberg. Wah wah wah. But yeah. T’is exclusionary.

So what time is the screening?

  4. FourJacksHotelcasino Says:

I will wait for the 3d version, thanks anyways

  5. Matt Greene Says:

How do we tell on the facebook page if we’re in? I have never done this before.

  6. Robert Lutter Says:

List is up on Facebook now.

There were over 160 requests for tickets and, at 2-3 seats requested per person, the odds of snagging one of the 50 seats was not particularly good. :) Crossing my fingers and toes for the AICN giveaway, otherwise we’re are going to be at the theater early on Saturday because there’s no way in heck I’m missing the chance to be in the same room as Pete Docter!

  7. Early Edition: The Whole World’s a Twitterin’ - Film School Rejects Says:

[...] MySpace has debuted a brand new featurette for the upcoming Pixar animated adventure Up, which can be seen below. If you live in Austin, you can see the entire film this weekend at the Alamo Drafthouse. For more details, check out OriginalAlamo.com. [...]
